What is Social Responsibility?

Social responsibility is all about understanding that each of us has a role to play in making the world a better place. It includes individuals, groups, the media and government who all have a genuine interest in the welfare of others and are committed to making a difference to the lives of others. It's about thinking about how actions affect others around us and the community we live in.

People who behave in a socially responsible way are not just activists or campaigners or volunteers, they are everyone in society who want to contribute to society, making it a better place to live.

People who are socially responsible want to see that there is justice and equality for all. They take a stand against those who are discriminated against and they speak out when they see people being treated unfairly.

Examples of Social Responsibility include:

  • Recycling

  • Helping Others

  • Being Honest

  • Volunteering

  • Supporting Charities

  • Fundraising

  • Contacting/lobbying politicians

  • Taking part in peaceful demonstrations
